In 2008 the Volley Club Portorož sports association decided to adapt most of its programs, which relate to the development of both indoor and beach volleyball, to focus on the latter. Conditions for the club’s operation in the Municipality of Piran are well suited to the development of this sport, mainly because of the favorable climate and the proximity of the sea, with which the sport is fundamentally connected. For many years now we have been running our programs on the Central Beach in Portorož in cooperation with the public utility Okolje Piran d.o.o. and the Piran Sports and Youth Centre. The facility where most of the programs take place is the beach volleyball center located on the aforementioned beach, made up of 4 courts for running the programs and an adjoining area with two storage containers, a shower, and a few small stands. The center provides an excellent base for work in the spring and summer months and offers everything needed for the development of beach volleyball. In the autumn and winter period we are forced to adapt our programs to indoor work. During that time we use the hours and facilities allotted to us under the agreement on running annual sports programs, concluded between the Municipality of Piran and the Piran Sports and Youth Centre on one side and Volley Club Portorož on the other.
Volley Club Portorož has set itself the basic goal of popularizing beach volleyball among young people, and above all developing top-level competitors. Our results are proven by the numerous national championship titles won, as well as by the international results of individual players who have moved on to a professional level of competition.
